Writing Quality Blog Comments

Today in Grade 4,5,6 we discussed writing quality blog comments. It is important to write quality blog comments becuase it is a published form of writing that can be read by people all over the world. Take a look at our Answer Garden on what we believe makes a good comment. Can you add anything else?

What makes a good blog comment?... at AnswerGarden.ch.

We then looked at a checklist created by Miss Spink and agreed that this is what we will use to help us write quality comments. You can see the checklist here- http://missspink.edu.glogster.com/blog-comment/. We are all trying to write EXPERT comments.

What do you like about blogging?

Do you think you are an expert at writing blog comments?

  1. Hello, Grade 4,5,6.

Commenting is a great way of saying to others you have read their posts and found them interesting enough to leave a comment. You have probably felt how good it feels when someone takes the time to comment and can imagine how happy others can feel if you comment on their work.

When commenting, I try to always be positive. As a member of Team 100WC (a group helping comment on the 100 Word Challenge), I sometimes make suggestions how a story might be improved but make certain the comment also points out what is good about a story.

In some cases, my comments can be quite long if someone has made a post about a subject of interest to me. I might want to include pictures, audio files or links to videos. Rather than clog a comments section, I move longer comments to a blog. One of my blogs is dedicated to longer comments...

In all cases, I reread my comments and hopefully remove any errors yet some still get through. Being an adult, I do include my last name in comments but this is never to be encouraged when you're a school student. Your suggestion list on what makes a good blog comment suggest you use first name only. This is a great idea and very important to security on line.

I normally try to answer questions in posts but don't always ask them. The lack of questions is normally because I may find it hard to find the time if answers to my questions come in. This is because I usually write comments on many posts each day. I find commenting a very important part of encouraging people to make quality posts.

    Now to your questions…

What do you like about blogging? … It is a wonderful way of sharing work and ideas with the world and can make us members of a global classroom. While I have been involved with computers since 1975 and computers in schools since 1981, I have only been blogging for 8 months yet now have five blogs.

Do you think you are an expert at writing blog comments? … An expert is said to have special knowledge or knowledge in some particular field. I’m not an expert but I am an enthusiastic amateur. ☺

  2. Hi Miss Spink and Grade 4,5,6

I wanted to add "continue the conversation" to your answer garden but it had too many letters so I added "continue the chat" instead.

You have some great responses listed.

I like finding out about the visitors that come to our class blog and I love it when my students add a comment from home or when their family join in the conversation. Have your families added many comments yet?

    regards

    Mrs S

  3. Great ideas class! One rule I have for my students to follow when we comment on others blogs is: If you don't have something to say, don't say anything. I read a lot of blog posts without leaving a comment. I want what I have to say (whether it is on a student blog or an adult's blog) to be useful in some way.

  5. Dear Grade 4,5,6

This is a really great post because it teaches people about quality commenting and helps people with writing comments as well.

The best part about blogging would have to be interacting with different classes from all around the world and learning about their cultures. This is my first term blogging and I have fully enjoyed it. I have learnt a lot about other countries and other places around New Zealand.

I think I have a lot more to learn about blogging but I have become better and more confident each time I make a comment. Do you really enjoy blogging?

    Yours sincerely
